Burning Mensch was ignited last year by the passion of a single burner, Joel Stanley, from the Milk+Honey Theme-Camp.
Mensch is a celebration of Lag B’Omer, the Jewish holiday marking the 33rd day of the Counting of the Omer, the period between Passover and Shavuot. The holiday is about treating people with respect—being a “mensch”—and lighting the fires of our own hearts. All were invited to come to this free community event in costume, and celebrate the spring holiday of Lag B’Omer, with a spectacular fire festival and party filled with fun, creativity and meaning.
The line up included live music, a community mural project, along with an array of food trucks. And The Flaming Lotus Girls also returned this year with Angel of the Apocalypse for the community family and friends to play.
In tandem with Milk+Honey Theme-Camp, the South Bay Burner regional community pARTicipated to bring more art, interactivity, and fire:
* Fire poi and staff performances * Flame sword performance * Light (image) poi * Juggling instruction * Ecstatic Dance * House of Inanna tribal dance * LED Isis Light Wings performance * Jewish learning tent from Camp Milk & Honey * Face painting * Costume exchange * Labyrinth * Gifting project * Food workshop * Ali Bar-Bar * Acroyoga * Transformation through Fire (Glass tiles display) * Art booth hosted by South Bay Regional Contacts.
