Not everything that happens at Burning Man stays at Burning Man! The City of San Jose and Burning Man organization are bringing art to the Southbay through the “Playa to Paseo” partnership, over the next 3 years.
The Southbay Burners community are invited and encouraged to pARTicipate: join the grand celebration on the opening night on Friday Nov 3rd, and bring mutant vehicles, music, art and generally your fabulous selves to share the joy with the San Jose community at large!
Nov 3rd Grand Opening: Sonic Runway
The first of the art installations through Playa to Paseo program is the “Sonic Runway“, the light-art installation by Rob Jensen and Warren Trezevant that came to the playa in 2016, after debuting Chengdu in China and then in London, it is making it back to North America to city of San Jose.
WHAT: The Sonic runway is a light-art installation that converts audio signals into a pattern of lights that shoot down a corridor of 32 arches at the speeds of sound.
WHEN & WHERE: The piece will be unveiled at a 6 p.m. ceremony on Nov. 3, in front of the San Jose City Hall — on the Santa Clara Street sidewalk from Fourth to Sixth streets – and will stay for two to three months.
Additional Art coming in 2018
Expect three to four pieces a year to San Jose, with the successor to “Sonic Runway” coming in early 2018.
