Join us for October’s virtual Meet & Greet as we host our first virtual Artist Spotlight with Dana Albany! Dana Albany is a prolific Bay Area artist who has produced, fabricated and installed several large-scale art sculptures at Burning Man, museum exhibits, and city centers. Her works include interactive installations of extraordinary vision. Originating from a collage of recycled materials, Albany’s art reclaims our scraps and discarded objects to re-imagine meaning.
Albany should be very familiar to South Bay burners as she was also a featured artist in the Playa-to-Paseo civic art partnership between the City of San Jose and Burning Man. Tara Mechani stands 15 feet high and is created from non-traditional materials including bicycle gears and machine parts. The artwork entwines aspects of the female Buddha, Tara, with the characteristics of a futuristic female robot. She is a reminder to embrace the future without losing sight of past beauty and ancient wisdom. Tara Mechani was on view in Plaza de Caesar Chavez from April to August 2018.
Dana will talk at our M&G about Tara Mechani, her experience with the Playa to Paseo partnership, her experience as an artist and Burner, and more, including a chance for Q&A. We hope you join us! Zoom link is listed below.
